A Glimpse into a Modern Marriage

What did you expect from Marriage?

Chances are…not what you got! Most people enter into marriage with similar misconstrued conceptions. When you first marry, everything is wonderful, and passionate, and intentional. You really try to please each other. You seek out opportunities to show love and receive love. However, the honeymoon fades away as life quickly steps in with stress, financial difficulties, children, community (and even church) involvement, tragedies and even aging happens. You suddenly look at your marriage, and it has not lived up to all of your hopes and expectations. Sadly, many marriages end…if not legally…then emotionally.

What Happened?

Life. Our culture is busy and we are spread thin. We give of ourselves to work, kids, community, extended family, friends, church, etc. All of those things have consumed your time and attention. Our spouses get the little bit (if any) that’s left over; but this is not God’s plan! A marriage should first be grounded in Christ. The couple then needs to be the solid foundation for the family. That takes intention. The marital relationship must take priority above all the other “commitments” in our lives. When marriages get marginalized, nothing else we do will be as efficient or effective.

What Now?

Start loving intentionally. Regardless of your history and even if your effort isn’t being reciprocated; it’s never too early and never too late to be intentional. Intentional Moments is about encouraging and equipping couples to love each other “on purpose” one moment at a time because intentional moments lead to intentional marriages!
